Honda Cog Commercial

This video continues to fascinate me! Most people I have already shown this too are quick to be skeptical that there was no CGI involved. The biggie is where the wheel rolls uphill.

adExcellence

adExcellence: The beta attempt by Microsoft adCenter to join the trifecta of PPC advertising certification programs. Do you have about 5 minutes?

Being one of the first hundred people to sign up and take the Microsoft adCenter certification exam, I feel a few things should not go unmentioned.

First and foremost, when you take the exam, it clearly states that it is still in beta, which in the same sentence as Microsoft, scares me. This is proved by lack of quizzes for certain study modules and frequent misspellings.

The second gripe is the fact that multiple questions are repeated two or three times during the exam. Remember that old adage from high school: "use the test to take the test"? Yeah, that applies here. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but common, I breezed through this in a half hour, with the flu, and still scored over 90%.

The one thing I liked was the fact that they broke down your performance on individual classroom categories as pertaining to the random questions answered.

The third thing is the fact that the member directory does not give a chance to better explain yourself and what you do. A link for a photo would be nice. I did like the concept of the member directory as a whole, however. You can easily check out companies and get ideas about what others are doing out there.

So in the end what do we get? While remaining lackadaisically composed, blogging about Microsoft McExcellence, I wonder if any of these certification exams hold any weight in the search marketing world. If one simply uses adCenter for any length of time, one could take the exam with very little effort. The logo basically costs $50 and two hours of being ping-ponged between happy Microsoft spokespeople clip art with varied racial monotoned voices and repetitive questions about the basics of PPC.

But hey, all and all, that logo sure looks pretty, and they already got my fifty bucks...
